1

LDT Regulation Reset. Pressure Off for Now

The FDA’s 2024 LDT rule has officially been rolled back, reverting oversight to the pre-2024 framework.

What this means:

  • Immediate regulatory pressure has eased
  • CLIA, CAP, and internal validation remain your foundation
  • This is a pause, not the end of the conversation

Smart labs are using this window to strengthen validation frameworks before the next wave of oversight hits.

If you want to expand your offering and explore validation on additional PCR test panels, reach out to John Castelino @ [email protected] for more information.

2

CLIA Goes Fully Digital. No Exceptions

As of March 1, 2026, CMS has moved CLIA to a fully paperless system.

Key implications:

  • All certificates, notices, and fee communications are electronic
  • Online payment is now mandatory
  • Your email on file is now critical for compliance

If your contact information is not current, you are one missed message away from a compliance issue.

3

Medicare Cuts Avoided for 2026. But Do Not Relax

Labs avoided reimbursement cuts for 2026, but reporting requirements are back in focus.

What to know:

  • No CLFS payment reductions this year
  • Private payer data reporting window is May 1 through July 31, 2026
  • Future cuts from 2027 through 2029 may reach up to 15 percent annually

This is your window to evaluate test profitability and optimize your test menu before pressure returns.

4

Measles Surge and H5N1 Monitoring Driving Testing Demand

Public health trends are shifting again.

  • Measles cases are rising across multiple U.S. jurisdictions
  • H5N1 surveillance continues to expand with commercial lab involvement

Why it matters:

  • Increased demand for respiratory and infectious disease testing
  • Greater importance of rapid turnaround and reporting
  • Opportunity for labs with flexible molecular capabilities

Labs that can pivot quickly will capture both clinical and public health value.

If you want to explore validation and pricing on infectious disease panels, reach out to John Castelino @ [email protected] for more information.

Quick Thought

The labs that will dominate the next 12 to 24 months will not just run strong assays.

They will combine regulatory discipline, financial awareness, operational agility, and high-quality data infrastructure.

That combination is what turns a lab into a strategic partner, not just a service provider.

Interesting Fact

Even small updates to CDC specimen submission protocols can significantly impact turnaround time, routing accuracy, and testing efficiency across lab networks.

Precision in operations is becoming just as important as precision in science.
